Getting around town

Metro
Buy a token at the station and tell the cashier where you're going. Hang on to it: you need it to get out at the other end. Runs daily, ⁦6:00–23:00⁩. The first car is for women only.
Rickshaw
Quickest for short hops: about 60 ₹ to Connaught Place, about 100 ₹ to Sarojini Nagar. When you pay, remember which note you handed over. Some drivers palm it and show you a smaller one.

Right by the Chabad House

Money, SIM and laundry

Changing money

Avi Nesiot, in the alley parallel to the Chabad House. Israeli travelers swear by it.

ATMs: SBI or Bank of India charge no extra fee. Take out as much as you can in one go.

Local SIM

Vicks, in the first alley across from the Chabad House: turn right, then left. Bring your passport.

Airtel works across most of India. The SIM lasts three months, or until your visa runs out.

Money from Israel

Western Union: someone at home pays it in at an Israeli post office, and you collect it at the Main Bazaar branch with your passport.

You'll need the sender's name, their city and the 10-digit transfer number.

Laundry

Delhi laundries charge per item, so it adds up. Keren, right by the Chabad House, is the cheapest.

Skip the government hospitals. Go private.

Main Bazaar is safe to walk, evenings included. Women: late at night, it's better not to go alone.

Keep your money, phone and documents secure and out of sight, especially in crowds.
